Cash Management
1. Registers & Cash Drawers
Each Register has a Name, e.g. Left Window, Main Window, LineBuster1, LineBuster2 etc.
Recall, Register names the “place” where orders are taken. When installing TouchpointPRO on your iPad, you will choose a register, e.g. ‘left window’.
Each POS register can have one or more cash drawers. In order to count the cash collected for orders, a cash drawer must be started.
Before we learn how to start a cash drawer, let's look at two rules that you should always follow:
1. You cannot have 2 iPads configured for the same Register!
2. Linebusters need to have their own registers but not an open cash drawer! You will only collect CC payments, no cash and you don't want to send orders to your Linebuster but only take orders and send them to a window.
Manage your Drawers
Tap ☰ (in top left corner) and go to Active Cash Drawer or Count out Drawers
Active Cash Drawer
View and manage the cash drawer that is active for that REGISTER.
Example: The device you are on is configured for Role "Cashier", Register "Walk-up"
When you tap on Active Cash Drawer you will be able to view and manage the cash drawer for the Walk-up Register.
2. Lifecycle of a cash drawer
The lifecycle of a Cash Drawer is short and simple. Start a drawer for your Register, e.g. “Left Window” collect cash sales in your physical cash drawer, then close out all active drawers at the end of the day.
2.1 Start Drawer
Starting the first shift of a day, launch TouchpointPRO and you will be prompted to start a cash drawer.
You can also start a cash drawer by going to the POS menu > Active Cash Drawer. If no Drawer is active yet, Touchpoint will prompt you to start one.
You also want to add some Starting Cash when opening the Cash Drawer.
Done! You are ready to process orders on the register and collect cash sales in your physical cash drawer.
2.2 Close Active Cash Drawer
At the end of a shift or day, close out cash drawers at your stations (registers).
The cash drawer contains Starting Cash and all Cash Sales collected since starting the Cash Drawer in the morning.
Open POS Menu > Active Cash Drawer > Select the active cash drawer to close it
3. Paid In/Out
Paid In: “Hey, you opened today with only $100 instead of the usual $150. Here’s $50. Do a cash Pay In.”
Paid Out: ”Take $80 and go buy some Pizzas. Do $80 paid out.”
4. Opening Cash Drawer outside of a sale (i.e. No Sale)

5. Buying Money from drawers
Drawer Buying: “I need two $5 bills. Here’s a $10 Bill.
Since this is the same value of money, no cash paid in/out records are needed.
6. Print X report
☰ > Cash Drawer > Print X Report The X report is a current snapshot of the current transactions since the last cash drawer close.
Print Z report
The Z report is a final tally of everything that happened to the cash drawer. It is useful to bundle a Z report together with the cash when putting in the store safe.
Note: the cash drawer must be closed and counted before the Z report can be printed.
Set Up
Learn how to set up your iPads at the different stations (Linebuster, Cashier, KDS/Pickup Station)
Select iPad Role and change Register
Easily view and change the Role and Register configuration of all iPads.
Access the Setup screen by tapping the hamburger menu ☰ (in top left) > Setup (bottom left) > tap and select a register > Save (top left corner) > Setup.
Note: Only one iPad can be connected to a Register! "Register Protection" disconnects an iPad from a register automatically when a second one connects.
Recall that a Role defines which mode to display in the User Interface: Cashier, Line Buster or Pickup/KDS while a Register names the “place” where orders are taken: left or right window, walk up etc.
Hide orders from Right POS and LineBuster 2. Move register whose orders should not be visible on this KDS from GROUP 1 to NOT VISIBLE.
Troubleshooting
Checking iPad wifi to ensure it is connected to “TPINTERNAL”
iPads need to be connected to the wifi network TPINTERNAL!
Why Won’t Drawer Open?
If a drawer won’t, the issue is most likely with the connected printer. Those are the most likely reasons why it won’t open:
- Printer out of paper,
- printer off,
- Wrong or damaged cable connecting printer and drawer
Replacing the printer roll paper
- open the roll paper cover
- Remove the used roll paper core and insert the roll paper. The correct direction of the paper is shown in the illustration below.
- Pull out some paper, and close the roll paper cover
Printer is On but doesn’t print
Locate the small round hole on the lower back portion of the printer and poke a pen/paperclip into the hole for about 5 seconds, or until a small piece of
receipt paper prints out. Take a picture of that and send it to [email protected]. and we will investigate further.
Note: If nothing prints at the 5 second mark, please let go of the reset button and let us know that it wouldn't print; holding it longer than 5 seconds can factory reset the printer.
Cabling (Drawer)
The Printer connects to the underside of the cash drawer with a special cable that looks like ethernet on one end, and a phone jack on the other.
This is an APG KIT # CD-005A
- Make sure it’s the right cable, an APG KIT # CD-005A.
- Disconnect the cable from the printer and the drawer, then reconnect.
- To check if the cable is damaged, swap the cable with a different register. If the drawer now opens, you know that the cable is damaged and needs to be replaced.
